Format & Tools

The course runs for 6 weeks with 3 instructor-led classes per week, mixing lectures, guided labs, and project time. Students work directly with:

  • Copilot Studio for agent creation
  • Power Automate for workflows
  • Power Apps (Canvas Apps) for front-end interfaces
  • Dataverse for modeling and storing business data
  • Microsoft 365 & Teams connectors
  • Sample datasets and sandbox environments for safe experimentation

Program Outcomes

By the end of the program, students will:

Be fully prepared for the PL-900 exam and take the assessment to get certified
Build several small agentic AI demos
Deliver a full end-to-end capstone integrating Copilot Studio, a Power App, Power Automate workflows, and Dataverse tables
Be able to create business-ready AI tools such as onboarding assistants, helpdesk or ticket-triage bots, workflow automation, data-driven apps with embedded agents, and lightweight operational dashboards

Weekly Timeline

Week 1: Foundations, Agentic AI + Power Platform Overview

Class 1: Course overview & agentic AI basics
Understand the course structure, goals, expectations, and logistics. Define agentic AI and how it differs from traditional automation. Explore real-world examples.

Class 2: Power Platform & Copilot Studio at a glance
Identify the core components of Microsoft Power Platform (Copilot Studio, Power Automate, Power Apps, Dataverse, Azure AI Foundry). Set up the basic learning environment and accounts needed for the course.

Class 3: Getting started with Copilot Studio
Navigate the Copilot Studio interface. Understand topics, knowledge, and basic settings. Build and test a first simple AI agent.

Week 2: Conversational Agents with Copilot Studio

Class 4: Designing conversational experiences
Design and test simple conversational flows using templates and pre-built components. Handle basic user input and responses. Publish agents to at least one channel (e.g. web chat) for internal testing.

Class 5: Building more capable agents
Create more complex agents with multiple topics. Introduce tools and actions inside Copilot Studio. Work with simple branching logic and context, and troubleshoot common conversational design issues.

Class 6: Mini agent project
Plan and design a small agent for a realistic scenario, such as an FAQ or intake bot. Work in pairs or small teams to build and refine the agent, then present early versions and receive feedback.

Week 3: Data & Automation, Dataverse + Power Automate

Class 7: Dataverse fundamentals
Understand Dataverse and its role in the Power Platform ecosystem. Create tables, columns, and relationships. Discuss basic data privacy and security considerations for business apps.

Class 8: Data modeling for agents
Design a simple data model to support agent scenarios. Import and manage sample data, and connect conceptual entities from the agent (customers, tickets, orders) to Dataverse tables.

Class 9: Power Automate fundamentals
Navigate the Power Automate interface. Understand flows, triggers, and actions. Build and test simple flows for notifications, reminders, or task routing, and learn how automation supports agent behavior behind the scenes.

Week 4: Integrations, Agents, Flows, and Apps

Class 10: Power Automate with real services
Connect flows to Microsoft 365, Outlook, Teams, and other services. Use connectors, conditions, and loops to design a more advanced flow that automates a realistic business process.

Class 11: Integrating Copilot Studio with Power Automate
Understand how an agent can trigger flows and how flows can call back into agents. Explore patterns for agent-workflow integration, and configure Copilot Studio to call a Power Automate flow and test end-to-end scenarios.

Class 12: Power Apps fundamentals
Navigate Power Apps and create a basic canvas app from a template. Understand screens, controls, and layout. Connect the app to simple data and see where it might host or invoke an agent.

Week 5: Apps, Data, and End-to-End Solutions

Class 13: Building and customizing apps
Customize app layouts, forms, and galleries. Connect Power Apps to Dataverse, Microsoft 365, or SharePoint. Implement basic validation and business rules, positioned in the context of PL-900 app-building skills.

Class 14: Connecting apps with agents and flows
Trigger Copilot Studio agents from inside a Power App. Call Power Automate flows from the app. Design user experiences where an app, an agent, and an automated workflow work together, and troubleshoot common integration problems.

Class 15: Data-driven agentic scenarios
Integrate agents and apps tightly with Dataverse. Demonstrate dynamic data retrieval and updates from agents or apps, and examine real-world data patterns and best practices.

Week 6: Capstone, Best Practices, and Exam Readiness

Class 16: Capstone project build session
Work in teams to design an integrated solution that combines Copilot Studio, Power Automate, Power Apps, and Dataverse. Apply all tools to a coherent business scenario, focusing on clarity of data model, user experience, and automation logic.

Class 17: Orchestration, troubleshooting, and optimization
Refine the capstone solution with better orchestration and error handling. Identify and resolve common integration challenges, and discuss basic performance and scaling strategies for Power Platform solutions.

Class 18: Presentations, feedback, and certification next steps
Present capstone projects and demonstrate end-to-end functionality. Give and receive structured feedback, and complete specialized training for PL-900.
